Offering a Prayer Wheel (also known as a “Mani Wheel”) in Tibetan Buddhism is regarded as a supreme and skillful method for accumulating merit and purifying karmic obscurations.
The Merits of Prayer Wheel:
Possessing Superknowledge: One can attain the five eyes and six supernatural powers in the future.
Rebirth in Happy Realm: At the time of death, one will not fall into the three miserable realms (hell beings, hungry ghosts, or animals), but will be reborn in a pure land or attain human or heavenly rebirth.
Increase of merit: Prayer wheels contain a large number of Avalokiteshvara mantras (the six-syllable mantra of Om Mani Padme Hum) or other mantras. When the prayer wheel turns, it is equivalent to reciting hundreds of millions of mantras.
Unfolding of Wisdom: The prayer wheel represents the Buddha’s teachings. Offering it helps eliminate ignorance and delusion, gradually unveiling wisdom and eliminating karmic obstacles.
Elimination of karmic obstacles: Especially for the ten non-virtuous deeds and other sins committed by body, speech, and mind, the power of offering prayer wheel can quickly purify them.
Benefiting sentient beings: Offering a prayer wheel not only benefits oneself, but also countless sentient beings around us (including those invisible to the human eye), forming a karmic connection with them for liberation.
