Braving the November’s treacherous weather, 116 golfers thronged to Palm Garden Golf Club in Putra Jaya on Nov 15 for the inaugural Bo Re Charity Golf 2017. The charity golf was first conceptualized by 4 students who attend the weekly Lamrim Chenmo discussion night classes at Buddhist Bo Re Fo Xue Hui Association Selangor & KL, PJ Taman Megah. These students who are golfers themselves wanting to assist the centre to raise funds as all the classes conducted for children, youth and adults are on complimentary basis as well as to create awareness of the Bo Re centre to the golfing community.
Just by words of mouth and whatsapp, these students together with the organizing committee garnered 29 flights from their golfing friends and secured many generous sponsors from food & beverages, goodies bags, golf t-shirts to prizes.
It was truly refreshing to watch their friendly and energetic volunteers going around performing their tasks the whole day, one would be easily mistaken thinking they have organized this event for years. Every golfer will surely remember despite the long day on the course, these volunteers still full of energies singing and clapping hands welcoming the golfers to the dinner hall. And as you walk into the hall, you are greeted by a 2 piece band with a beautiful lead singer serenading the night, magic show, youth team singing performance plus lots of lucky prizes. No wonder many golfers were singing praises of this well-organised event, and judging of the resounding success of its first ever event, we can’t wait for the next edition. What’s so special that all of these are done by volunteers who sacrificed annual leave, time and energies so that all monies raised can go toward a good cause. Rejoice to all.
